Favreau Talks Avengers

Avengers

“What if I told you we were putting together a team?”
-Tony Stark

Jon Favreau recently spoke to USA Today about the upcoming AVENGERS film and revealed the superheroes Marvel intends on featuring in the film. Says the article:

Iron Man director Jon Favreau says Marvel’s plan is “to team up the heroes for The Avengers, which is made up of all of the Marvel heroes they have the rights to.” Favreau says the team’s lineup has changed throughout the years, “but the ones Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man. I would love to see that.”

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president of production, confirms that he’s working toward the day when “heroes can cross into each other’s adventures and occasionally team up if there’s a foe too great for any one of them to handle.” He and screenwriter Zak Penn (X2: X-Men United, Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk) are uniting to get Avengers in theaters by summer 2011.

The Avengers

The Avengers are an elite superhero team that appear in the Marvel Universe. They first appeared together in The Avengers vol. 1, #1, 1963.

Known as "Earth’s Mightiest Heroes", the Avengers originally consisted of Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk. Almost from inception, however, the roster has been fluid, with the Hulk departing [1] and Captain America joining.[2] The rotating roster has become a hallmark of the team, although one theme remains consistent: the Avengers fight the foes no single superhero can withstand - hence their famous cry of "Avengers Assemble!" To that end, the team has featured humans, robots, gods, aliens, supernatural beings and even former villains.

Despite the diverse nature of the team (which often resulted in squabbling), the Avengers have always managed to unite into a cohesive unit to combat extraordinary threats.
